Sauternes is part of Bordeaux in France, but in this part of Bordeaux, they make sweet white wines. Using Semillon grapes that have become moldy with noble rot (if that sounds gross, I promise it's magic), they blend it with Sauvignon Blanc for some of the best dessert wines in the world. This particular Sauternes smells like golden delicious apples and lemons. As is often the case with wines made with noble rot, it has flavors of honey and beeswax, and we also noticed flavors of white peach and nuts. This was a fine Sauternes, but these wines should taste special, and this one didn't hold up. It was a little unidimensional.
Food pairing idea: honestly just on its own after dinner
