Bart here. Another quiet afternoon on the deck quite abruptly became a memorable experience. Not only was my wife’s conversation delightful, this 2023 Rose Rock Pinot Noir from Domaine Droughin in Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon “was rivoting!”

Yes, this is a French company with branches in Oregon. This wine is beautifully ruby colored and so bright it almost sparkles. As one might expect, it has the French earthy, herbal softness just ahead of vibrant cherry and raspberry notes, belying its American roots. A second pass will locate light pink and red elements in a floral bouquet. On the palate, you drift through dark blue and red fruits with a stoney, mineral finish.Oak is present, but not over-abundant, rather showing light vanilla and new leather touches. The tannins are silky smooth, keeping everything in balance. A truly spectacular wine.
Oh yes, and my wife is beautiful as well!
As a lover of Pinot Noir, this American version of a French theme is perfect, especially for the $42 price at Jacob Liquor. This wine should age well for several more years. Worth every penny, this wine likely will be quickly hard to find.
