Phew, it is HOT. This is the season for white wine!! The other day, we tried this beauty:
Château Ducasse Bordeaux 2022

Bordeaux typically brings to mind red wine: the Cabernet-leaning blends of the Left Bank and the Merlot-leaning blends of the Right Bank. However, white grapes are grown there, too! Bordeaux Blanc is also a blend. The main grape is Sauvignon Blanc, mixed with Sémillon and sometimes also Muscadelle. Sémillon is the grape most commonly known for making the dessert wine Sauternes, and in these blends, it brings more body and smoothness to the Sauvignon Blanc. As a result, the wine isn’t quite as bright and tart and brisk as typical Sauvignon Blanc. The effect is pretty lovely.
This particular wine smells like ripe peaches and tropical fruits, though when you taste it, it reminds you more of honeydew melon and wet stone at the base of a waterfall. It’s delightful on a hot day. If you aren’t feeling the briskness of a typical Sauv Blanc but don’t want the heaviness of a California Chardonnay, this is a great wine that splits the difference. It’s definitely worth a try!!
This wine sells for $19 at Jacob Liquor.
