Katie here. Hellooooo dog days of summer! It is HOT. Personally, I am no fan of summer. My only consolation is knowing that the days are slowly getting shorter and we’re marching towards Fall. That, and chilled white wine.
My husband brought a new find home from Plaza Wine and Spirits, next to Whole Foods:
Tapi Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand 2024

Now I must confess, lately I haven’t been loving New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. They’re just too green for my current tastes. So often, they have overpowering notes of green bell pepper and celery and grapefruit.
I agreed to give this one a try, though, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Immediately on the nose, it smacked more of tropical fruit like pineapple and kiwi, and even some stone fruit like white peach. It smells lovely. You get those tropical notes on the palate as well, and while it certainly does have some green notes in it (to me it often comes across as celery), it is by no means overpowering. It’s crisp and clean and tropical, but the fruitiness isn’t so strong on the palate as to make it almost sweet. This is a crisp, dry wine. It’s balanced by some minerality as well, like a gravel path.
I ended up pouring myself a glass of this, and I really enjoyed it! Perfect for a hot day!
