Wichita Summertime with a Bourbon Bramble

Katie here. Friends—what is more Wichita summertime than picking blackberries at Elderslie Farm?

My girls had the chance to go pick a couple of pairs of berries on a beautiful early morning before the heat set in. Naturally, we decided to have a blackberry festival!!

On the menu was blackberry cobbler, of course.

It also seemed like a good idea on a hot day to have blackberry cocktails. I decided to mix up some Bourbon Brambles.
The recipe I used came from Wild Turkey Bourbon. It calls for:
2 parts bourbon
1/2 part simple syrup
3/4 part lemon juice
1/2 part blackberry liqueur
Fresh blackberries
(In practice, we felt it was better with a little less lemon)
Add the bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake. Then, muddle blackberries in a rocks glass and add crushed ice. Pour the mix from the shaker into the glass, and float the blackberry liqueur on top!

For the kids, my daughter also muddled blackberries and added them to lemonade for delicious blackberry lemonade!

What a great way to spend a summer afternoon!
