Canned Wine Part 2

Summer has hit like a ton of bricks, and we’re trying to find ways to make the heat less miserable. So if you’re hitting the pool, going out on a boat, or cheering on kids at a ball field, and you can’t have glass with you, canned wine is a great option!

Katie was actually walking through Jacob Liquor, initially planning to pick up more of the canned wine from our last review (see our previous post on canned wine!), when she saw a bunch of canned wines that we hadn’t tried before. For the good of Wichita, it was time for another wine tasting!

These canned wines are all sold as individual cans, so you can pick up as much or as little as you want.

First up:

Underwood Oregon Grown Rosé Bubbles

ree

This was a surprisingly good canned wine! It was light and effervescent and slightly sweet, but the tart red fruit flavors like tart strawberry and cherry nicely balanced the slight sweetness. We enjoyed this one and can definitely see ourselves drinking more of this, especially on these hot summer days!

Next:

House Wine Rosé Bubbles

ree

Ok, our initial taste wasn’t perhaps our favorite. It wasn’t sweet, but it seemed to almost have a fruit punch character to it. There were pineapple/tropical notes to it. We were drinking it out of the can initially, and it seemed to almost have a metallic taste.

We decided to try pouring it in a glass. That was a good move. The wine was definitely better out of the can. It seemed to have some peach and tropical flavors, and it lost the metallic flavors out of the can.

However, we agreed that if we were going to choose a rosé bubbles in a can, the Underwood was definitely our preference. Weirdly enough, the Underwood almost tastes better IN the can as opposed to in a glass.

Moving on:

House Wine Rosé

ree

Katie has to admit that she tried this one on her own at a ballgame, poured into a thermos, so she never tried it in the can. But on its own, it was a smooth, full rosé, with a little more body to it than many rosés. It smelled and tasted of bright, tart cherries with just an edge of sweetness, and slight notes of blossoms. It was definitely a nice rosé for a warm afternoon.

Next:

House Wine Sauvignon Blanc

ree

Like Sauvignon Blanc often is, this wine was a little herbal. It also had some tropical notes to it, like very ripe pineapple. Again, this wine was better when poured out of the can. These House Wine cans seem to impart a significant metallic note to the wines, so in our opinion, the wines are best enjoyed out of the can.

Last one:

House Wine Original Red Blend

ree

This wine was so interesting! It smelled like spices, like cloves and cinnamon, and reminded us of the apple cider Bart’s aunt used to make at her Christmas tree farm. The wine also tasted of spices, but also of dark, really ripe fruit. We all agreed this tasted like a bourbon barrel wine, with some strong oak flavors. This may not be a hot weather wine, but we think it would be great around a campfire in the evening!

Again, we were impressed by canned wine! These are great options if you’re wanting wine but have to avoid glass. Something to make summer more bearable!

The House Wines all sell for $6.50 at Jacob Liquor
