Obviously it’s big news, because we’ve been seeing it everywhere lately, but today is National Rosé Day!!

We tried to find out the origins of this most important holiday. Somewhere on the internet (so take it with a grain of salt), it says that rosé wine ran short in the US back in 2014 (heaven forbid). In order to get attention back on rosé, a national rosé day was declared. And this is it!

So we couldn’t let today go by without giving you a rosé suggestion. We present:

Daou Rosé, Paso Robles

ree

This rosé is made in California from the grape Grenache (a national holiday calls for a US wine). This wine is a DELIGHT. Some rosés can be rather simple and unidimensional, but this one has a lot going on. To start, it is a beautiful rosé, light salmon pink and almost coppery.

Get your nose in there. You get a light, pleasant whiff, but in that whiff, you can smell blossoms, raspberries, strawberries just turning ripe, fresh cranberries, apricots, and mandarin oranges, and even a little melon. It’s like a gorgeous fruit basket. It’s light and lovely and bright to drink, with a delicious mix of those fruits. You feel like you’re having a refreshing fruit picnic in a beautiful flower garden.

In case you’re wondering, this is a dry rosé. No sweetness.

If you’re going to a rosé party today, this is a wonderful one to pick up and bring along! It’s what Katie’s taking to her rosé party tonight! (Her friends may think they’re hosting a regular cookout, but certainly they really meant it as a rosé day party)

In a nutshell:

The wine: A-

The price: $20 at Jacob Liquor

Would we buy it again? For sure
